Buying in Bulk

Today's frugal success: Buying in Bulk

I've started doing a lot of my own baking the past few months, which means I use a lot of flour. I thought I was being smart by getting my flour at the cheapest grocery store I know of: Walmart. Until a light went on in my head and I thought, "Hey, I bet I can buy this in bulk at Costco for a lot less..." I had been paying around $2 for a 5 lbs. bag of the generic Walmart all-purpose flour. Buying in bulk, I could get a 25 lbs. bag at Costco for $6.59. My only dilemma: I'm moving in 3 months... will I use it all??? I figured if not I could freeze and move the extra. But an even better solution was splitting it with a friend. I used a normal measuring cup to divide the flour by cups into plastic ziplocks (took me about 15 minutes start to finish), labeled them with the date and amount, and voila: a frugal success for both of us. As an added bonus... the plastic ziplocks I used were on sale super cheap last week :).

Do they have unbleached flour at Costco? We're really getting to the point where we should start getting more stuff in bulk. Too bad Costco isn't exactly close. May be worth it, though, if they have unbleached flour in bulk...
